Agios Georgios

SOME LOCAL WALKS

WALK 1 A

( A variation on Walk 1 for visitors
staying in the central or northern parts of the resort)

Undulating circular walk from centre of Agios Georgios using both wide tarmac roads and unsurfaced tracks. This walk involves some uphill walking but produces some lovely views from higher ground.

Time needed 1 - 1 and a half hours

GENERAL NOTE
No liability will be accepted for the accuracy of these notes. This is a rural area and circumstances may change. Footpaths may become overgrown or otherwise difficult to negotiate and some new tracks into private fields may appear. (Advice of any changes will be welcomed.)

START: near the Belle Helene Hotel (1 on map) .

Leave Agios Georgios beach by the road which turns inland next to the Belle Helene Hotel. After passing the Bowling Alley, Balloon Club and several apartments the road climbs up hill through tall cypress trees before emerging on a high ridge with views back over the bay.

At the top turn left (T-junction) and follow the good tarmac road along the top of the ridge. (For keen walkers this road would eventually bring you out on the main road between Dafni and Arillas). However we are looking out for an obvious but unsurfaced track on the right which goes steeply straight downhill which you must take.

At the bottom of the hill the track turns right and levels out.

You will pass a track entering on you left which you ignore (unless you wish to take it and join Walk 1 at point B on that walk plan)

Now just follow the obvious track ahead which soon passes some holiday apartments and small agricultural fields. Some years there is a useful Snack Bar along here for a welcome drink on a hot day.

In a short time the track reaches the main beach road close to the Front Runners motor bike hire shop. Turn right at this road and follow it back along the beach road to the start point in near the Belle Helene Hotel in Agios Georgios.
